The day has FINALLY come!

We’ve been anticipating the new cabins coming to Fort Wilderness for what feels like years, and the time has finally come to be able to check them out for ourselves. We got an exclusive look inside, and of course we’re taking you along with us!

Now, these cabins have been a little controversial because from the artist renderings we’ve seen, they don’t really look rustic anymore, which was a bummer for a lot of fans.

However, now we’ve had a chance to check them out for ourselves and tell you exactly what they look like. We weren’t allowed to take photos of the outsides of the cabins during our tour, but here are some things we found out about the outside area:

  • The cabins will be painted in a variety of colors including blue, green, light brown, and burnt orange. The cabin colors will be varied throughout the loops at Fort Wilderness.
  • The cabins are being brought in with walls and floors already in place — to minimize the disruption to guests staying at Fort Wilderness while the construction is going on.
  • Every cabin has a private deck with outdoor furniture and a grill.

Let’s head inside!

The sofa and Murphy bed

The critique of these cabins has been that they looked more modern than rustic, but when we stepped inside, we realized there is a whimsical rustic feel to these news cabins — brought out in the colors, patterns and decor throughout the rooms.

The living room has a sofa and a pull-down Murphy Bed, as well as a wall-mounted TV and side chair.

The poster on the Murphy Bed pull-down is inspired by classic National Park posters, and features Mickey and Pluto welcoming guests with the trailer from 1938 animated short “Mickey’s Trailer.”

Stepping into the kitchen area, you have plenty of counter space and cabinetry to fix whole meals here!

Spacious layout in the kitchen!

Disney Vacation Club folks said these cabins really offer “two vacations in one” — you have the Disney Parks, but you’re also on a camping getaway.

The bedroom side of the cabin has a queen-size bed and two twin bunks.

The bedroom

Along with the queen-sized Murphy bed in the living room, that means this cabin can sleep six. This bedroom is a bit bigger than the original cabins’ layout — so the queen bed can be pulled out from the wall. The paddles on the bunk beds are painted in the Fab 5’s signature colors.

The decor is supposed to evoke a “camp vibe” with pillows and bedding with pendleton stripes and patches.

Now moving on to the bathroom, you’ve got some nice features here for larger parties, including a separate vanity outside the bathroom door, and another one inside near the toilet.

Bathroom

There’s also a slide out step under the bathroom vanity for those who need some extra height to reach the sink.

The first loop of these cabins opens on July 1st! The cabins are 527 square feet — the same size as the originals. There’s a slightly different layout inside, but keeping them the same dimensions was intentional — to keep the new cabins from disturbing the landscape around them.

These new cabins are currently available to Disney Vacation Club (DVC) members to rent (or you can rent DVC points from DVC members via a service like David’s Vacation Club Rentals, whom we LOVE). The cabins cost between 15-32 vacation club points per night depending on the season.
