4 Truly Wild Rules You Didn’t Know Existed in Disney World

Disney World, like many theme parks across the world, has a list of rules guests need to follow to make it a safe, enjoyable experience for everyone visiting.

Welcome to Disney World!

Now, Disney isn’t against you having fun — that’s the OPPOSITE of what they want to happen, but sometimes people get a little wild and they need to have rules in place to keep everyone safe. Of course, we’re strong believers in not breaking any of Disney World’s rules (getting banned is NOT on any year’s bingo card), but we have to admit, these made us do a bit of a double take.

Teenagers Can’t Be in The Park Alone (Kinda)

Did you know that kids under 14 CANNOT be in Disney World alone? Now, it completely makes sense for safety reasons, but we can see where some parents may be surprised by this hard and fast rule. At this age, teenagers are trying to have some independence, but Disney World is NOT the place to stretch those wings!

Additionally, your child who is 6 or younger will not be allowed to ride any Disney World ride alone. Again, this is for safety reasons, and children this  young really shouldn’t be left alone in a massive amusement park anyway, but just keep in mind that these kids will need someone 14 or older to ride any Disney World ride.

Objects That Resemble Weapons Are Not Allowed

This makes 100% sense to us, until we recalled all the fake weapons Disney World SELLS in their parks!

Pirate Sword at Plaza del Sol

We’ve seen plastic swords sold before at Plaza del Sol Caribe Bazaar, which is the gift shop right after you exit Pirates of the Caribbean, and we’ve also had a fake sword given to us as a souvenir from dining at Cinderella’s Royal Table! So basically, if we buy one of these, are we breaking the rules? We need answers, Disney!

LARGE Misting Fans Are Prohibited

We recommend using misting fans during hot Disney World days to cool yourself off, and some of the parks even sell them to guests. But SOME of these are prohibited.

Animal Kingdom fans

According to Disney World’s website, “Large misting fans” are prohibited but “personal handheld misting fans are permitted.” Again, our question here is WHAT is Disney considering a “large” mister? Do we have any dimensions to go off of, Disney? We’re very confused.

Metal Flag Poles

Don’t worry, we were confused too at first (just kidding, we still are). Disney states that metal flag poles in ESPN Wide World of Sports are prohibited, and that “Flag poles must be made out of wood, plastic and/or PVC. Flag poles cannot be longer than 4’, have diameters larger than 2”, or have decorative or sharp ends.”

The kicker here though is that, from Disney’s wording, it appears metal flag poles are ONLY prohibited in ESPN Wide World of Sports. So if you want to bring one into Magic Kingdom, there’s a possibility (but it’s pretty slim) that you could bring it in. (But also, you know someone had to have messed up to MAKE this a rule — what the heck happened?!)

  1. There was a time when toy guns were sold in the shop at Pirates of the Caribbean. My son was only small & really wanted one. I explained that we couldn’t buy one as we wouldn’t be able to bring it on the plane back home. He paused for a moment & then said “we could buy it & send it to Father Christmas & he could take it back to England for us.” Good thought. How do I get out of this one?
