CANCELLED TV Series Picked Up by ABC for Eighth Season

It’s hard to keep up with what’s going on with TV shows these days.

First, so many new TV shows are announced ALL the time. During all that, we’re also getting news about shows getting canceled. A few years ago, one TV show, 9-1-1 was canceled by Fox, but then found new life over on ABC. Well, ABC just renewed that series for an eighth season.

According to Deadline9-1-1 , the once-canceled show, is not just thriving on ABC, but it just got picked up for an eighth season, even though its season seven premiere just aired in March. The premiere of the seventh season had over 11 million viewers within its first seven days, indicating that the once-canceled show is popular on ABC.

In fact, that season seven premiere was the highest-rated multi-platform telecast in nearly two years for the 18-49 age group. The show is ABC’s most-watched current series across all platforms so far this season. It seems like Fox’s loss was ABC’s gain (it moved to ABC after six seasons on Fox). Granted, both networks are owned by Disney.

9-1-1, which was created by Ryan Murphy, stars Angela Bassett, Peter Krause, Oliver Stark, Jennifer Love-Hewitt, Ryan Guzman, Aisha Hinds, Kenneth Choi and Gavin McHugh. It follows the lives of Los Angeles first responders.

I guess it just goes to show that a series that seems like a failure on one network, can be turned around by a different network to make it a bonafide hit. Here’s to many more seasons.

  1. I’m a major fan of 911 and it’s going in a great direction and whatever direction it chooses to go I will forever remain a loyal fan

  2. I like everything about the show except the relationship between Athena and Cap. They have zero chemistry!

  3. Disney does not own Fox TV Network. You can only own one broadcast network. But presumably show was a 20th Century produced show (Disney DOES own the tv-movie studio formerly known as 20th Century Fox) to get the show to a 7th season for syndication but apparently ratings are good enough for an 8th season.
