The SECRET to Seeing Celebrities in Disney World

Millions of fans visit Disney World every year, and it’s not just the “regular” people who are dedicated fans!

We’ve heard of many different celebrities who are big Disney fans and visit the parks often with their families. But on top of that, celebrities often come to Disney World for work! So how do you increase your chances of a celebrity sighting in the parks? We’re breaking down WHEN you’ll see celebrities in Disney World.

When There’s Filming

If you go to Disney World as often as we do, you’ll see people filming things pretty frequently. And we’re not talking about TikToks here — more like full-scale setups with cameras and lighting and a director.

Filming!

Ahead of the holidays, you might catch filming taking place for the Disney Parks Holiday Special or the Disney parade that airs on Christmas Day. These are big television events and sometimes filming takes several days, which can alter your experience in the parks…especially if they set up a giant stage that potentially obstructs your view of Cinderella Castle.

With these television specials, they’re often hosted by big-name celebrities like Derek Hough, Julianne Hough, Whoopi Goldberg, and others. We’ve spotted quite a few of them in the parks! We even once spotted Chance the Rapper performing in EPCOT!

Candlelight Processional

Perhaps the most obvious time to spot celebrities is during the Candlelight Processional at EPCOT. This show takes place annually during the Festival of the Arts, where each night a celebrity narrator will tell the story of Jesus’s birth while accompanied by a choir and orchestra.

Before the festival begins, Disney will release a list of the year’s narrators and which nights they’ll be performing. Neil Patrick Harris is one of the most popular ones that guests go to see each year.

We’ve seen everyone from singers to talk show hosts to Marvel movie stars in the lineup in the past, so make sure to check out the list when its announced!

The Opening of a New Ride

Sometimes, if a movie or character-based ride opens in the parks, the actors who portray those characters or the creators of the movie will show up for its grand opening. When Star Wars: Galaxy’s Edge held its opening ceremony at Disneyland Resort (because it opened there a few months before it opened at Disney World), it was attended by Mark Hamill, George Lucas, Harrison Ford, and Billy Dee Williams.

Similar things have happened with Marvel attraction openings and when Avengers Campus opened at Disney California Adventure. So if you’re planning on visiting the parks on a big opening day (or when the opening ceremony takes place!), just be on the lookout.

Movie Promotions

And finally, we’ve got to talk about movie promos! If celebrities are on a tour to promote a film franchise that’s prominently featured in Disney World…chances are that they’ll be stopping at the parks. For instance, Toy Story 4 stars came to Hollywood Studios back in 2019 to visit Toy Story Land and promote the new movie.

We also know that stars from Avatar: The Way of Water came to Pandora in Animal Kingdom to take some promotional shots for their movie. Sometimes these press events take place early in the morning before the parks open though, so this one can be hit-or-miss.

So if you’re heading to Disney World in the hopes of seeing a famous person — these might be your best chances of finding them in the parks! And of course, we’ll keep you updated in case we spot a celebrity on one of our visits.
