We like to think we’ve seen it all when it comes to Walt Disney World merch, but then Disney finds some new way to get us writing checks (or scanning MagicBands). We’re not talking about the newest Minnie Ears trend or souvenir popcorn buckets, though we love those, too.
Out there in the World are some pretty weird things you probably wouldn’t have imagined you could ever buy on property, so we’re going on a little hunt to see what treasures are out there.
Here are five unusual pieces of merch you probably didn’t know you could get at Walt Disney World!
A Lucky Pearl
If you have not stepped foot inside the Mitsukoshi Department Store in the Japan pavilion at Epcot, you have been missing out on of the most unique stores in all of Disney World. They have a ton of interesting merch that you wouldn’t think you could find on property inspired by anime, Pokemon, Hello Kitty — the list goes on and on!
One of the weirder things you can buy in this love letter to all things Japanese is an oyster pearl for $18. Yes, they have an entire tank filled with oysters, and they will actually crack these bad boys open in front of you to see which pearl you get.
All of the oysters are guaranteed to have a pearl in them so you just need to ask yourself one question: do you feel lucky?
Shaquille O’Neal’s Sneakers
Okay, a pearl is weird, but imagine buying shoes at Disney World that someone else had already worn. Sounds gross at first, but what if they were a piece of sports history? You can do just that at the NBA Experience at Disney Springs.
Inside the store (ticket not required thankfully), you can find several pieces of basketball memorabilia on display that you can buy, including Shaquille O’Neal’s size 22 Reeboks from his Rookie of the Year season. SIZE 22.
If you did end up buying these, you probably still wouldn’t be able to wear them (unless you’re a lone size 22 traveler out there in this vast universe). Still, it’s an interesting piece of sports history that you can actually buy at Disney World for a cool $900 (they’re even signed by Shaq).
A Life-Like R2-D2
Who needs shoes when you have your own personal droid, though? When Galaxy’s Edge first opened at Hollywood Studios, you could find a life-size replica of the plucky astromech droid R2-D2 at the Droid Depot for sale. Well, it seems like the little guy has moved from Batuu to our planet at the Star Wars: Launch Bay.
Not only is this R2-D2 at 1:1 scale, but he also lives! He can light up, make noises, and move on his own. Maybe if you snag the droid you can set him up with a drink serving tray like in Return of the Jedi.
To get the droid you’re looking for, though, you’re going to have to shell out a very reasonable $25,000.
A Crystallized Cinderella Castle
We wish we could take Cinderella Castle with us from the Magic Kingdom when we have to leave, but that’s stealing which we’ve been told is a crime. There is another way you can take the icon of the park with you, but a lot more shiny and with a pretty big price tag.
Glass and crystal designers Swarovski made 50 Cinderella Castles entirely out of crystal. Of the 50, 30 have already been bought up, but you can still find one of them at the Magic Kingdom.
The fact that 30 of the castles have been sold makes the price tag of $37,000 seem even more crazy! It definitely would be an excellent talking piece for your home, just remember to keep all hands and arms away from the castle at all times and please watch your kids.
An Actual Katana
So after adding a life-like droid and a crystal castle to your collection, what’s a few hundred dollars for a sword? Wait, a sword?!
Yes, you can buy an actual katana at the magnificent Mitsukoshi Department Store in Epcot (the circle is now complete). Toward the back of the store, you will find the display case housing a number of ornately designed blades and sheathes.
Of course, you need to be a grown-up or have one with you to snag one of these swords, and you can only pick them up on your way out of the park for security reasons. The blades are only intended as display pieces and are not very sharp (sorry to disappoint), but you could forevermore say that you did indeed buy a katana at Disney World

Heck, I bought a pair of swords at Disney World back in the early 1980s. There are still proudly displayed in my house to this day along with a grand story (BTW, back then full sized Toledo sword was $50).
We also have a 48″ wooden ships wheel bought at the POTC gift shop in 1975. Owned by my Father until he died, now at mu house.
I bought a pearl last year and it turned out to be the largest pearl they had ever seen. It is a 3/4 mm with a mirrored sheen. It is amazing. There is a secret to getting a good pearl. You need to pick to ugliest oyster you can find. Worked for me! Good luck finding a good one.
