The ABC’s of MVMCP (Mickey’s Very Merry Christmas Party

There are some things that are just necessary to revisit from time to time and one in particular is how to make the most out of Walt Disney World’s Mickey’s Very Merry Christmas Party held at the Magic Kingdom theme park on selected nights from early November up to a few days before Christmas.

With the opening of the new Fantasyland extension, it makes sense to review the touring essentials guests should keep in mind when attending this party. After all, we all know that the cost of the party ticket is significant and it’s important to get the best value for your time.

If you are fortunate enough to be in The Magic Kingdom a day or two before the party, visit Guest Relations at City Hall and request a party brochure. The brochure will offer you such information as the parade route, the cookies and cocoa locations (there are six (6)), and most importantly, the entertainment schedule for the party.

The last piece is important, as it will allow you to properly plan your touring plan for the night. The key is to invest time BEFORE the party and plan your evening, not while you are there. You have only so many hours in the park and you want to make the best of them.

The entertainment is scheduled as such so you can plan on one of several opportunities to watch this entertainment. Each offering gives you at least two options on when you can view this entertainment.

The exception is Holiday Wishes, the nighttime fireworks spectacular which is shown once, at 9:30.

The other limitation is Mickey’s Once Upon a Christmastime Parade, which steps off at 8:15 and 10:30.

By the way, one privilege you have as a party guest is that you and all your fellow party guests will have access to the shops. Notice here a cast member guarding this entrance to the Main Street Emporium.

Special merchandise is sold on party nights and my advice is for you to do your shopping early before that merchandise is gone.

So what is the best assortment of tips and tricks for attending Mickey’s Very Merry Christmas Party?

As someone who has been to over a dozen of these parties I have found a certain plan that seems to work well for me”¦it may work for you. But to be thorough, let’s look at two different plans. The first is for young families (with preteens) and the second will be for older families.

Here it is in a Christmas chestnut”¦nutshell:

First for young families:

1. Arrive at the park no later than 6:30pm to get settled.
2. When the party starts take a stroll through the Emporium to check out the special
party merchandise.
3. Attend the 7:45pm Celebrate the Season performance at the castle.
4. After the show grab some cookies and cocoa.
5. Watch the 8:15pm Christmas Parade at your favorite parade spot.
6. Watch the 8:45pm “A Totally Tomorrowland Christmas Show” in Tomorrowland of
course.
7. Check out the character Dance Party in Tomorrowland
8. Attend the 9:30pm Holiday Wishes Fireworks.
9. You’ve done everything. From this point on do whatever you like, including
attractions.

For older families (teens and older):

1. Arrive at the park no later than 6:30pm
2. When the party starts take a stroll through the Emporium to check out the special
party merchandise
3. Check out the treats and the character Dance Parties and attractions
4. Attend the 9:30pm Holiday Wishes Fireworks.
5. Watch the 10:30pm Christmas Parade
6. Grab some more treats and do a few more attractions.
7. Attend the 11:20pm Celebrate the Season performance at the castle.
8. Watch the 11:45pm “Totally Tomorrowland Christmas Show ” in Tomorrowland
while the throng heads for the exit.
9. Leave the park around 12:30am.

I would take the above schedule as a basic infrastructure and tweak it to your preference.

Remember, the priority should be the special entertainment provided during the party, and the treats. Attractions should be last on your list, if on your list at all.

Merry Christmas!

  1. I wish Mickey’s Very Merry Christmas Party” would bring back Twas the Night Before Christmas. That is so much more about Christmas than the dance parties. Also I would love to see a fresh new parade. I don’t know about you, but it seems Disneyland’s parade floats are a bit more creative in style than Florida’s Magic Kingdom parade floats. I know this is sort of off topic. But do you know why CA’s floats are superior to FL’s? Just curious.

    Hi Connie,

I’ve always had the feeling that Disneyland has the more sophisticated clientele and that means a tougher audience. For that reason perhaps they spend a bit more time making sure character meet and greets are with outstanding character representations. as far as the parade floats go, WDW and DL sometimes switch back and forth. I would hope that it is equal on both coasts.
